The idea
The closure had to give players an answer. The return had to name what changed.

I wrote community copy around the closure and return. Dates, new content, netcode, and engine changes needed to be clear, with the familiar account voice helping the posts fit the conversation players were already having.

Two posts show how much the writing could change with the moment. In March 2023, players needed to understand why Open Beta was closing and what the team planned to do next. A year later, they needed a return date and specific reasons to believe the game had changed.

The wait needed to
produce something

More than 20 million people had played within a month of the July 2022 open beta, so the closure post was talking to people with real time in the game. The return post, announced March 11, 2024, had to show them the wait had produced something: a rebuild in Unreal Engine 5 and new netcode.

Two posts,

One post closed the Open Beta. The other brought the game back. Both kept the account’s voice and put the facts first.

The Open Beta update

I opened the closure post by thanking the MVP community, then stated June 25 clearly. The explanation followed: the team was preparing for full launch, with new content, features, and modes planned for the return. The announcement referred to early 2024 as the plan at that time.

People had invested time and feedback in the game. The copy needed to acknowledge that relationship and answer the immediate practical questions. I wrote and published the post with the team’s campaign media attached.

Giving the return some energy

The March 2024 announcement had a different pace. A quick checklist moved through the community, updated netcode, Unreal Engine 5, and Tony Huynh before revealing May 28.

The account’s familiar phrasing welcomed players back. Naming the technical changes gave them information they could use to judge the relaunch.
