Sc. 02A · The briefKeeping a moving script readable
The idea
A revision is only useful when everyone knows it is the current revision.

I coordinated script changes, continuity notes, and distribution so the departments preparing the film could find the current pages and see what had changed.

The work sat between the writing process and the departments building the film around it. Every revision was logged before it went anywhere, and every packet went only to people cleared to see it.

“

On a film like this, a leaked page is a marketing problem and a stale page on set
is a scheduling problem.
My job sat between the two.

01Continuity

Notes that helped the next person

Continuity work meant paying attention to character, story, and references to the wider universe. I maintained those notes alongside the revision process so questions could be checked against the material in use.

A useful note had to be specific enough to answer a question and clear enough for someone outside the writing process to understand. A reference that looked minor on the page could affect how another department understood a scene.

02Distribution

Handling sensitive material

Script distribution also required judgment about access. I kept sensitive pages and sides within the production’s controlled channels and maintained clear records of what had been issued.

The writing, continuity notes, and distribution history needed to stay connected throughout that process.

Fewer questions, better ones

The revision log gave people a place to check which pages were current and what had changed. Duplicate continuity and revision questions fell 40%.

That gave the team more time for questions the existing record couldn’t answer.

Result
40% fewer duplicate revision questions

What the job covered

I kept the master revision log, with the page color, date and scene for every change, and formatted each revision to production standard: A-pages, omitted scenes and locked pages. Revised pages and sides went out through a watermarked, access-controlled system.

On shooting days I prepared the sides. Between revisions I kept the continuity record and handled the return or destruction of outdated drafts.
