Multi Versus
The brief
MultiVersus was considered to be somewhat of a cultural phenomenon at launch, uniting iconic characters from across the Warner Bros. Discovery catalog. My challenge was to sustain that massive initial momentum over several years while managing a highly vocal, competitive player base.
As a live-service title, the game required "always-on" communication regarding seasonal updates, character balance, and technical patches. This project offered a masterclass in community management, not just during the record-breaking launch, but through the high-stakes strategic decision to sunset the live-service servers at the conclusion of Season 5 in May 2025.
By the numbers
My initial social strategy contributed to MultiVersus surpassing 20 million players within its first month, fueled by reveal trailers that garnered over 50 million combined views.
Sustained Community Sentiment
Through proactive "Player First" communication, I maintained a 70% positive sentiment rating among core competitive players through the final season of play.
Explosive Social Growth
I oversaw a social expansion that saw the MultiVersus X (Twitter) account grow by over 400,000 followers, driven by high-frequency interactive polls and community-led character matchups.
Strategic Grace Under Pressure
My work on the co-management of the May 2025 sunsetting announcement was cited as a benchmark for "empathetic communication," resulting in minimal brand-damage scores and preserving a loyal audience for future WB Games titles.
The work
How it came together.
Live-Service Transparency Framework
I developed a "Dev-to-Player" communication pipeline, translating complex technical balance changes into engaging, digestible social content. This reduced player friction and ensured the community felt valued throughout the game's evolution.
Meme-Driven Engagement Strategy
Leveraging the game’s chaotic multiverse nature, I leaned into community-born humor. By embracing fan-favorite narratives like "Ultra Instinct Shaggy," we fostered an organic, self-sustaining social ecosystem that kept the game trending during mid-season lulls.
Sunsetting & Legacy Management
During the conclusion of Season 5, I led the sensitive messaging and community FAQ rollout. I focused on maintaining player goodwill and protecting the brand’s long-term reputation, ensuring the final season was a celebration of the community rather than a source of conflict.
